Bugs/Exploits

  • From Rekt (28-5-2021):

"BurgerSwap was the next in a growing line of protocols to fall victim to the same hack that has been causing issues in recent weeks. BurgerSwap simply had to copy UniSwap’s code and yet there was something missing from their order. The question has to be asked, was this negligence? Or something a little seedier? At around 3 am on May 28th (UTC+8), $7.2M was stolen from #BurgerSwap in just 14 servings. This exploit was made possible by the fact that the attacker could do reentrance and make a second swap before reserves, which are used to calculate the number of tokens in swaps, were updated. Interestingly though, this seems to have been enabled by by a missing x*y=k check. Something which was present in the original univ2pair contract but was seemingly removed in this instance. BurgerSwap claims they are in the process of producing a detailed compensation plan for their customers."
